Pia Viviani: Designing Citizen Science Projects (II)

Objectives

In this hands-on workshop we will focus on how to ask the right research questions and set up project management for your own citizen science project. In particular, you will

  • Get an overview of the whole range of citizen science (from crowdsourcing to co-creation to biohacking)
  • Know which topics and research questions are suitable for citizen science
  • Know the project management steps to design a citizen science project
  • Design your own imaginary or real citizen science project, no matter if natural sciences or humanities

Description

Not just biodiversity research, but also many other fields of natural sciences, social sciences, humanities or health research are suited for citizen science. It all depends on asking the right research questions, defining appropriate target groups and setting up the project in a way that fits all groups involved. Are people involved long- or short-termed? Does the project work locally or globally? Do people work online or offline? Is any specific knowledge necessary in order to participate? Do I offer courses or video tutorials? Depending on what a project’s research aim is, different project settings make sense.
In this hands-on workshop you will work on your own citizen science project in small groups. You are guided through different project management steps and are coached in taking the right decisions for making your citizen science project work.
You can either bring an already existing idea of a research question for a citizen science project or work on a topic that you establish in the workshop.

Start: Tuesday, January 14, 9.15 am
