Citizen Science School
Welcome to the Citizen Science School!
We offer an intensive week of exchange and learning for everyone passionate about bringing science and society closer together.
Whether you’re an early-career researcher or already working in Citizen Science, you’ll spend the week sharing experiences, learning practical approaches, and developing new ideas for collaborative and participatory research.
About the School
The program is hosted by the University of Zurich, and held alternately in summer and winter. It is jointly organised by Citizen Science Zurich and the UZH Graduate Campus:

What Is Citizen Science?
Citizen Science covers research where members of the public (“citizens”) take part in the process, at different levels and for different purposes. You’ll find it across many disciplines (from linguistics to urban planning to public health), often in inter- and transdisciplinary settings.
You may have heard related terms such as Community-Based Research, Participatory Action Research, Civic Science, or Public and Patient Involvement (PPI/E). Citizen Science is an umbrella concept that encompasses these and many other approaches.
Projects can look very different: Some work closely with communities on issues that directly concern them, fostering empowerment along the way. Others use participatory methods to gather or analyze large or hard-to-access data.
Activities range from small, local projects with defined groups to large-scale international initiatives where anyone can take part.
