Plenary workshop, Friday June 18th: How to find and keep volunteers collaborating with you

If you think you can set up and plan your citizen science project on your own, think again! To find people collaborating with you in a project, you need to think about who they are before you start thinking about too many other project details. Who are the actors and organizations you need to make your project successful? What are their interests? How can you reach them? And how do you set up a project that takes different interests into account? If you can answer all these questions, there is a good chance you find enough citizen scientists collaborating with you.
In this workshop, you learn how to find and keep motivated citizen scientists. We are going to use an example of a citizen science project and work through a checklist that you can later use for your own projects.

Preparations: Please think about one or several topics on which you would like to conduct a Citizen Science project if you were able to choose freely. Please write your thoughts down in one or two sentences and send them to hoi@catta.ch until Thusday, June 17th.

Parallel workshop, Tuesday June 22nd: Becoming a citizen science project manager
You’ve got that brilliant idea of a citizen science project. Then you want to start working on the project, but you don’t know exactly know how to proceed… No one is a born project manager. There are some tools you need to know and some things you have to adapt for citizen science projects to get things running. In this workshop, you learn about different project phases in citizen science and what tasks there are for each phase. You also hear about failed projects to learn what not to forget. And in groups you will work on projects of your choice and learn what you would have to do in each step to really set these projects up and running. To finish up, you learn about some great resources with tools and checklists for running successful citizen science projects.
