Participant requirements and costs

Researchers from all disciplines as well as practitioners in the field of citizen science are invited to apply. Primarily, the Summer School is designed for PhD candidates and early postdocs. We ask participants to be present for group activities such as discussions, lectures, and collaborative exercises. In an online setting, these will be conducted via Zoom and other digital tools. Participants must therefore have access to a computer with a microphone, webcam, and a stable internet connection. Participants are expected to attend the entire school to recieve credit.

We strive for a diverse group of participants with different disciplinary backgrounds, a keen interest in research with societal relevance, and new ways to interact with (non-academic) citizens. Sessions will be conducted in English, therefore fluency in both spoken and written English is essential. Since some parts of the program may be held in German, (passive) knowledge of German is an asset.

Participation Costs: Participation cost will be around 200 CHF per participant. In a live setting, this includes meals and accomodation in Zurich. For a small number of applicants we are able to grant a reduction of the participation fee, in cases of special financial burden (for example for single parents). The participation fee must be paid before the school. Participants will be responsible to manage any reimbursement from their institution individually, if applicable.
